Ancona Province is often the first area that visitors will experience via Falconara Airport. Don't be put off- it's not all
motorways, industrial estates and oil refineries.  You cannot but notice the huge bolder which is Monte Conero- it
dominates most or the region and is now a National Park. Even more stunning , yet unseen from the surface, are the
glorious Frassasi Caves. This is a true wonder of the natural world(and perfect for rainy day trips!). Ancona itself is not
the prettiest place on the world- it's a large working port that was heavily bombed in WWII. Nearby Loreto, however, is a
World Heritage Site, and is home to a spectacular church which houses the original House of the Virgin Mary- flown all
the way from the Holy Lands by angels, no less. A t the foot of the mountains is the historic town of Fabriano where they
have been a  world centre for paper making for many centuries. Between there and the coast are rolling hills dotted with
vineyards where the grapes for the renowned Verdicchio di Castelli Jesi are grown. Look out for the Strada del Vino
signs here and on the Conero area. The beaches are fantastic: around Senegallia are beautiful golden sandy beaches
(with some of the very best seafood restaurants in Italy) and around Sirolo and Numana they are craggier and pebbly.
